However, we should know there is no specific part of a plant that is called a vegetable. Any portion of the plant can be consumed as a vegetable. For example, potatoes, beet, carrots, radish, and all are roots of plants and are consumed by people. We often consume various leaves through our meals like spinach, lettuce, and so on. But the fruit has to grow from a single or multiple ovum of a flower otherwise it cannot be called a fruit.

Onion is more used as a form of spice to add up to the recipe. It gives immense flavor to the recipe. Onion can be eaten in many forms. You can make appetizers directly out of onions or else you can make any dish with onions. 

There are no such health issues with onions. The only problem is that it contains sugar as it is the root of a tree. So diabetic people should avoid consuming too many onions.
