London Ontario, November 6, 2018 - After a 35-year career with the Canadian Armed
Forces, retired Master-Corporal Ed Duffney is finding new ways to give back to the
profession that means so much to him. In retirement he is embracing a new mission
as a volunteer and fundraiser for the needs of Veterans.
Ed, a resident of the Veterans Care Program at Parkwood Institute, sells t-shirts
at $20 apiece to raise money for care and comfort equipment used by Veterans. So
far he has raised $10,000 through his fundraising efforts, money that will be used
to purchase items like ceiling lifts that help elderly residents get in and out
of bed and comfortable furniture for family visiting rooms.
He is a motivated salesman known throughout Parkwood Institute and beyond for his
dedication to the cause. "The Veterans need our help and I just want to make a difference,"
Each t-shirt is designed and approved by Ed before they are pressed by a local print
shop. The designs pay homage to the sacrifice soldiers make for the peace and prosperity
"We are grateful and inspired by Mr. Duffney's commitment to the Veterans we serve,"
says Heather Tales, Director of the Veterans Care Program at St. Joseph's Health
Care London. "His dedication to raise awareness and fundraise for the program goes
a long way to support the special comforts that transform a hospital into a home-like
environment for our Veterans."
Renowned for compassionate care, St. Joseph's is one of the best academic health
care organizations in Canada dedicated to helping people live to their fullest by
minimizing the effects of injury, disease and disability through excellence in care,
teaching and research.
