London, Ontario, June 15, 2018 - On Thursday, June 14 at Wellspring London, ONERUN
announced their 2018 fundraising total. Needing $91,000 to reach the million-dollar
milestone for the organization, ONERUN raised $170,948.80 in this year's ten-school
campaign. The money raised through ONERUN goes to cancer patient care programs offered
through Wellspring London, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health
Care.
Carriere, the ONERUN Founder and Executive Director stated, "ONERUN is honoured
to be offering support to the many families who are affected by cancer and it is
our mission that the funds raised will ensure they are given the care they need.
ONERUN is about hope, and we want our community to know that they do not have to
fight their battle alone. We are so proud of the efforts of our volunteer driven
team and the thousands of local high school students and staff who participated.
Witnessing the enthusiasm and commitment from our youth has impacted all those who
looked on during our two-week event."
What began in 2010 with one survivor, Theresa Carriere, running 100 kms in one day,
has evolved into an opportunity for students, staff and community members to honour
those who have lost their battle to cancer and to support those who continue to
fight. Participating 2018 secondary schools, who in teams of ten, completed 100
kms around the track throughout their school day, included Westminster, Sir Wilfred
Laurier, Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, Regina Mundi, Clarke Road, St.
Thomas Aquinas, North Middlesex, St. Andre Bessette, H.B. Beal and John Paul II.
Some secondary schools were joined by elementary schools, alumni and community members.
