The Lake Erie North Shore Landowners Association (LENSLA) held its second annual general meeting Tuesday evening at Port Stanley’s Royal Canadian Legion. The dinner meeting was attended by about fifty people. LENSLA is a group individuals with properties along Elgin County’s Lake Erie Shoreline who share an interest in good stewardship of the land.

The highlight of the meeting was a presentation from Bryan Gilvesy, the CEO of ALUS Canada (Alternative Land Use Services Program). ALUS Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization that provides financial incentives for producing ecological services on Canadian farmland. Bryan’s topic was Building stewardship through Partnerships, Funding and Projects. He provided an overview of ALUS’s 11-year history and the guiding principles and organizational structures that have proven to be effective. Recommendations included, taking control of the organizations destiny; building a constituency; creating a brand that survives; proceeding with respect; building support one person at a time; creating value and sharing it; and collaborating.

Following the keynote address, LENSLA held its election for the coming year’s executive. Kyle Cronk was re-elected President. Dominique Giguère was elected as First Vice President and Jed DeCory was re-elected Second Vice President. The Secretary-Treasurer position is temporarily open, but Dominique Giguère, who had that position, will continue as the acting Secretary-Treasurer until a replacement is elected.

The executive reviewed highlights from the Annual Report and provided updates on recent activities. The members then divided into small groups to discuss goals and funding for the coming year before reconvening to share some of those ideas with the entire group.

LENSLA can be contacted at or 519 550-1822.
