United Way Elgin Middlesex
Kendra Nesbitt Receives 2018 Betty Want Scholarship

Local Legacy, Local Investment

Elgin County, ON – United Way Elgin Middlesex is proud to announce Kendra Nesbitt as this year's winner of the Betty Want Scholarship. The $1,000 prize is awarded annually to a deserving Elgin County student pursuing post-secondary education.

A selection committee, including Betty Want, reviewed all applications from four different local high schools. The committee members agreed that Kendra was a worthy recipient.

Kendra lives in the community of Corinth and attends East Elgin Secondary School in Aylmer. The scholarship will help her pursue a degree this fall in Kinesiology at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo.

The $1,000 scholarship will be presented to Kendra at her secondary school commencement ceremony on June 14 at 7:00 p.m., East Elgin Community Complex.

"We're proud to support our community's youth as they pursue their scholastic dreams," Kelly Ziegner, CEO, United Way Elgin Middlesex. "We know it's a tough financial environment for many families, and scholarships like this one make all the difference."

The Betty Want Scholarship was established to recognize Betty Want's many years of service to the community as a staff member at United Way.

"We are grateful to the many donors who make this scholarship possible," Ziegner continues. "Their generosity ensures that United Way can continue to honour local investments in Elgin County."
