Environmental Youth Corps Launched

April 16, 2018, St. Thomas – Local high school students will soon have the opportunity to make a real difference in the local environment as part of Kettle Creek Conservation Authority's (KCCA) new program, the Environmental Youth Corps.

"This is an opportunity not only to learn about what is being done to combat invasive species, create recreational opportunities, or fight climate change – the Youth Corps is also a chance to get your hands dirty and take part in local action," says Kassandra Boddie, KCCA's stewardship and outreach technician.

Ten students will be chosen to participate in the program. "It's a great opportunity to gain volunteer hours and real-world experience that can help build your résumé," says Boddie.

Students chosen to participate in the experience will learn about the local environment and participate in tree and wildflower planting, trail maintenance and invasive species removal. Boddie points out that, "it is a great opportunity to get outdoors and learn about your local watershed or explore if a career in environmental resources is right for you."

All training and tools will be provided for Youth Corps members. For more information and to register, visit or call KCCA at 519-631-1270. Applications will be accepted through KCCA's online process until May 9.

The Environmental Youth Corps program has been made possible from the generous support of the Government of Ontario's Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.
