August 10, 2018 - Reach the Beach is an annual road running event that got started in 2007. This year marks their 11th anniversary of holding these popular 5k and 2.5k run/walk races on the streets of Port Stanley. The course starts and finishes on Edith Cavell Blvd in front of GT's on the Beach, where the three main race events are featured. The first is a kids dash for small children for approximately 200 meters, the 2.5k and 5k for all age groups, start by heading East to William, North for one block, then West on Sydenham to George Street. For the 5k, the challenge is to go up that killer hill on George Street. This year over 300 entered and 253 completed the course. For more information go to Reach The Beach Website.

The Reach the Beach event is a fundraiser for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation with all the money raised going into helping the children's wards at the hospital.

The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation was founded in 1985 by a group of community leaders determined to make a lasting impact on the healthcare available in St. Thomas and Elgin County.

Since that time, our community has stood shoulder-to-shoulder in support of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Our mission is simple: we partner with the community to support STEGH in the delivery of an excellent patient care experience.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has invested more than $30 million into STEGH during this time.

The Foundation itself delivers a donor-centred philanthropic experience, one that recognizes the diverse giving motivations of individuals, foundations, as well as good corporate citizens.

Indeed, the quality of care that the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital offers today can at least partly be credited to the philanthropic generosity of donors past. Ultimately, we work with donors to ensure that our families and friends receive the care at STEGH they deserve during each visit, at every stage of life, and as close to home as possible.

The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital adheres to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Donor Bill of Rights. We are also an accredited member of Imagine Canada.

Complete race results are available here.
