August 11, 2017 - Reach the Beach is an annual road running event that got started
in 2007. This year marks their 10th anniversary of holding these popular 5k and
2.5k run/walk races on the streets of Port Stanley. The course starts and finishes
on Edith Cavell Blvd in front of GT's on the Beach, where the three main race events
are featured. The first is a kids dash for small children for approximately 200
meters, the 2.5k and 5k for all age groups, start by heading East to William, North
for one block, then West on Sydenham to George Street. For the 5k, the challenge
is to go up that killer hill on George Street. This year over 300 entered and 253
completed the course. For more information go to Reach The Beach Website.
The Reach the Beach event is a fundraiser with all the money raised going into the
Elgin County EAT 2 LEARN school lunch program.
The EAT 2 LEARN Partnership was formed in 2002 with a purpose of working
together with schools, parents and local communities to help them understand, accept,
support and deliver sustainable, unique Student Nutrition Programs. In working toward
this vision, EAT 2 LEARN has dedicated itself to providing students in Elgin and
St. Thomas access to and knowledge of healthy food choices. At all times, a consistent
message of availability, universality and acceptance is promoted.
