Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL)
2017 PJHL Prospects Day in New Hamburg October 21

Cambridge, ON – On Saturday Oct. 21, 2017, the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) will be holding the first-ever PJHL Prospects Day at the Wilmot Recreation Complex, home of the New Hamburg Firebirds of the PJHL's Doherty Division.

Eight teams have been assembled from the top 16 and 17 year old players (2000's and 2001's) from across the PJHL with players representing all eight PJHL Divisions, totaling nearly 160 players. Six of the league's eight Divisions are sending full teams, and while the two East Conference Divisions (Orr and Tod) were unable to send enough players for full teams, two all-star squads (Red and Black) have been formed from players from all eight Divisions to ensure every Division is represented.

PJHL Prospects Day will feature four full-length games between the eight teams beginning at 10:30 AM. Participating for the Yeck Division from the Port Stanley Sailors will be Austin Muscutt and Tyler Simon. Full rosters and games will be scored live on Pointstreak and the PJHL website at http://prospects.pjhlontario.ca.

Doug Kennedy, Chair of the PJHL Committee, and the General Manager of the Kincardine Bulldogs, believed this idea would work as it was something they had previously done between the old Western Junior C Hockey League (now the PJHL Pollock Division) and the Georgian Bay Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League (now the PJHL Carruthers Division). Kennedy said, "We always had luck showcasing 16 and 17 year olds and we knew it could be done on a bigger scale. This is a great showcase for the players and for the league."

The OHA is extremely pleased that the PJHL has implemented this initiative league-wide, as OHA President Karen Phibbs explained, "This is an excellent opportunity for the league's top young players to be exposed to scouts from higher levels of hockey and learn about future opportunities in hockey from the guest speakers. This will be a great day of hockey for everyone involved and will be a fantastic lifelong memory for our young players. The OHA is committed to player and program development and supports the teams of the PJHL as they continue to pursue excellence at the Junior level."

The 2017 PJHL Prospects Day is hosted by the New Hamburg Firebirds and Firebirds' President Bernie Shantz is excited for the opportunity and is really looking forward the event, saying: "We are honoured and elated that the PJHL has decided to come to our facility, we know our great local fans are in for a real treat." Shantz added, "When you get the top 16 and 17 year olds from across the entire PJHL, there are a lot of really good hockey players out there, the fans will be impressed at the calibre of play and the players in our league."
