Sailors Sink Shedden, Boxall Over Maroons, Blues Top Pirates

The sixteenth set of games of the 2018 Port Stanley Senior Softball season were held Wednesday, August, 1st, 2018 in mostly cloudy skies with temperatures rising to 25 degrees Celsius. The UV index was at 5 or moderate and the Humidex was at 31.

In Game 1 Shedden got on the scoreboard with a single run in the first inning, while the Sailors came back in the second to tie, and to lead with four runs in the third. The Sailors lead ended after two innings when Shedden managed to add a single run in the fourth, and cashed in on an error in the fifth with three runs. The game continued tied with plenty of action until the eighth when the Sailors sent five players around the bases to take the lead and to win the game with a final score of Sailors 10 - Shedden 5.

In Game 2 the Maroons took the early lead with a single run in the first, while Boxall took a little longer but managed to take over the lead with three runs in the third. Boxall kept the lead until the fifth when the Maroons added two runs to tie the game. The Maroons managed to keep the game tied until the seventh when Boxall sent two around the bases to capture the lead and to finally take the win with a final score of Boxall 5 - Maroons 3.

In Game 3 the Blues seemed to have the edge today taking the early lead with three runs in the first, while the Pirates, the league's first place team only managed two. The Blues continued to add a single run to their lead in the second, and the third, while the Pirates added two in the bottom of the third to now be down by only one. Two innings passed with some great softball but it wasn't until the sixth when the game opened up with another round of scoring opportunities. The sixth favoured the Blues who managed to add four runs to their lead, while the Pirates clawed back three to end the inning with the Blues leading 9-7. In the seventh the Blues managed to top out at eleven by adding two more runs, while the Pirates closed in with two runs in the eighth. Now the Blues were still ahead by two, but the Pirates were not going to lose with out a fight in the ninth. Action was close which made for a good game to watch but in the end the Pirates missed the tie by one to give the win to the Blues with a final score of Blues 11 - Pirates 10.
