Sailors and Boxall Tied for First Place

The twelfth set of games of the 2017 Port Stanley Senior Softball season were held Wednesday, July 12th in mainly cloudy skies, with temperatures rising over the day to 30 degrees Celsius, a Humidex of 36 and the wind from the South at 30 km/h. The threat of rain never came until a few drops at the end of the last game, but some teams were still missing players because of it.

In Game 1 the Blues came on strong and took the early lead in the first with five runs. In the fourth the Maroons finally managed to get on the scoreboard with a single, only to have the Blues come back adding another run to their lead. The Maroons added another run in the sixth, while the Blues added three to lead by a score of 9-2. The Maroons managed another single in the seventh, and then stalled giving an easy win to the Blues with a final score of Blues 9 - Maroons 3.

In Game 2 the Pirates took the early lead in the third with two runs, and added a single in the sixth, while the Sailors remained scoreless. It looked like the Pirates were going to easily take the win, until the eighth, when the Sailors suddenly got a single to get on the scoreboard, and then, in the top of ninth managed to take the lead by adding another three runs leaving the Pirates down by one, and needing at least a single to keep in the game. Well the Pirates managed to get that single tying the game which added an extra inning. But the tenth inning duel ended with another tie after both teams managed doubles ending a good close game with a final score of Sailors 6 - Pirates 6.

In Game 3 Shedden took the early lead in the first with a single, and added another single in the second to lead by two, while Boxall got on the scoreboard with a single. Shedden extended their lead in the fourth by one run, giving them a 3-1 lead. With a stroke of luck, and hard work Boxall began a drive to the end and with some success got a single in the fifth, and a double in the seventh to take the lead and win with a final score of Boxall 4 - Shedden 3.
