Pirates Finish Season in First Place

The twenty-second set of games of the 2018 Port Stanley Senior Softball season were held Friday, September, 14th, 2018 in mainly sunny skies with temperatures rising over the day to 26 degrees Celsius. The UV index was at 7 or high and the humidex was at 34. Today was the last game of the season, even though the Seniors Softball season normlly plays twent-five games, this year because of heavy rain the field got flooded out several times causing games to be cancelled.

In Game 1 the Sailors took the early lead in the first inning with just a single run, while Boxall was a little slower off the start came back with three runs in the third to steal the lead. In the sixth Boxall managed to add the last run of the game to win the game with a final score of Boxall 4 - Sailors 1.

In Game 2 the Pirates seemed to take early control of the game by sending four players around the bases in the first inning. The third inning was busy for both teams with the Pirates adding another five runs, while the Maroons put on a good show sending five players around the bases. The Pirates continued their sweep into the sixth inning adding the final two runs of the game to take the win with a final score of Pirates 11 - Maroons 5.

In Game 3 Shedden got the early lead with three runs in the first, while the Blues trailed behind with just a single run. Shedden kept busy in the second adding another four runs to now lead 7-1, but things changed bigtime in the third inning when the Blues put on a great come back show with fives runs closing the gap, now down by only one. The fourth inning gave Shedden a single run to now lead by two, while in the fifth the Blues managed to turn the game around by sending another five players around the bases and stole Shedden's lead to now be on top 11-8. The sixth inning gave Shedden a slight advantage by adding three runs to the Blues two runs, but the Blues where still leading 13-11 and could very well win this game. Some say that luck always runs out sooner or later, and thats what happened to the Blues in the seventh, Shedden capitalized on an error making four runs, while the Blues were trying their best, could only manage a single run that ended with the win going to Shedden with a final score of Shedden 15 - Blues 14.
