Maroons over Blues, Pirates over Sailors, Shedden over Boxall

The twenty-third set of games of the 2017 Port Stanley Senior Softball season were held Wednesday, August 30th in mostly cloudy skies, with temperatures rising over the day to 24 degrees Celsius, a Humidex of 29 and the wind from the North Northwest at 7 km/h.

In Game 1 the Maroons took the early lead in the first with three runs, while the Blues managed a single run. The Maroons kept the pressure on adding a single run in the second, and another four runs in the fourth, while the Blues were having difficulties still managed a single run, their last, in the fifth. The Maroons took advantage of another Blues error in the ninth and put another four around the bases to easily take the win with a final score of Maroons 12 - Blues 2.

In Game 2 both the Pirates and the Sailors managed a single run in the first to tie. The Pirates seemed to have the edge for awhile taking the lead with two runs in the second, and another three in the third, but the Sailors came back with four runs in the bottom of the third to end up trailing by just one. In the fourth the Sailors managed three runs putting them ahead by two, while later in the fifth it was the Pirates adding two, to once again tie the game. This game was one of those really close games that get played where the winner isn't decided until the very last inning, and having a fast runner can make the difference between winning and losing. In the sixth, Dick managed to get his first home run of the season, with Dilly running the bases giving the Pirates the lead by one, while later in the seventh the Sailors returned with one to tie the game again. The eighth was the inning that decided the game with the Pirates sending two around the bases, while the Sailors only managed one. The Sailors tried to catch up, but the ninth remained scoreless giving the Pirates the win with a final score of Pirates 11 - Sailors 10

In Game 3 Shedden took the lead with three runs in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth, and finally another two in the fifth, to end with a total of eight. While Boxall got on the scoreboard in the fifth with two, and a last single run in the seventh to end with a total of three. For two more innings the score remained the same giving Shedden the win with a final score of Shedden 8 - Boxall 3.
