The first games of the 2017 Port Stanley Senior Softball season were held Wednesday, May 17th
in partly cloudy skies with temperatures rising over the day to 22 degrees Celsius.
Many of the players seemed to have lost that edge that they had at the end of last
years season that hopefully will return after playing a few more games.
In Game 1 the Sailors got off to a early lead with three in the first. Shedden
came back in the fourth with three to tie the game. In the sixth, the Sailors added
one, then Shedden in the seventh got one to tie. The eighth proved to be the turning
point of the game when the Sailors fell short with only adding one, while Shedden
got a lucky break, took the lead with three, and went on to take the win with a
score of Shedden 7 - Sailors 5.
In Game 2 both teams managed two in the first to tie. In the fourth the Pirates
added one to take the lead, but lost it in the sixth when the Maroons managed two.
In the seventh the Maroons regain the lead with two more, and another two in the
eighth, while the Pirates only managed one. The ninth was scoreless giving the win
to the Maroons with a score of Maroons 7 - Pirates 5
In Game 3 Boxall managed to take the early lead with two in the second. In
the fifth the Blues briefly managed to tie with two, but Boxall added one to inch
by taking the lead. The sixth added one for the Blues tying the game. In the seventh
both teams managed one keeping the game tied, only to have the Blues come back again
with one in the eighth to take the lead. The ninth was busy with both teams adding
two runs which kept the Blues in the lead and to take the win with a score of Blues
7 - Boxall 6
