Spitfires Over Sailors 41

On Sunday, December 23rd, 2018 the Port Stanley Sailors played their thirtieth game of the PJHL Regular 2018 - 2019 Season against the Aylmer Spitfires at the Memorial Arena in St. Thomas.

This is the second time this season that the Sailors have played the Spitfires on Sailors home ice. Last time the Spitfires won the game that was finally decided in overtime, hopefully this game will be just as entertaining. Just past the halfway mark of the first period at 10:50 Sailors Dawson Maton (18) assisted by Liam OShea (22) put in the first goal of the game. Six minutes later at 16:56 the Spitfires tied the game with Dawson Cook (23) going all the way unassisted. Shots on goal for the period were listed on the score sheet as Aylmer Spitfires 12 - Port Stanley Sailors 9.

The second period began with the game tied, and seemed to be getting rougher by the minute. Aylmer does have a rather unique game playing strategy that seems to work quite well at getting the Sailors in the penalty-box. After almost ten minutes of end to end action the Spitfires took the lead on another unassisted goal this time by Erik Scherer (11). With a minute left in the period Spitfires Bhrett Hibbert (20) assisted by Luke Regier (8), and Noah Seguin (22) put Aylmer ahead by two. Shots on goal for the period were listed on the score sheet as Aylmer Spitfires 2 - Port Stanley Sailors 0.

The third period began with the Sailors down by two, and with the game getting rougher, getting even seem to be all that was on most players minds. The only problem is that sometimes players really do get hurt, some will end up with permanent injuries that last a lifetime. The game continued with several whistle blowing interruptions caused by flaring tempers and an injured player that needed assistance on getting up and getting off the ice. With just over two minutes left in the game, Spitfires Matt Bond (14) assisted by Erik Scherer (11), and Luke Regier (8) scored Aylmer's fourth goal of the game. Shots on goal for the period were listed on the score sheet as Aylmer Spitfires 19 - Port Stanley Sailors 12.
