Sailors Win By Two Over Bulldogs

On Saturday, December 15th, 2018 the Port Stanley Sailors played their twenty-sixth game of the PJHL Regular 2018 - 2019 Season against the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs at the Port Stanley Arena.

This is the second time this season that the Sailors have played the Bulldogs with the first game ending in a 3-2 win here on Sailors home ice. With the Sailors having that home ice advantage again, this game should be an entertaining game to watch. After over fourteen minutes of intense end to end action, the Port Stanley Sailors managed while shorthanded to score that game defining first goal of the game. Credit has to go to Austin Muscutt (3) for taking that extra effort, slipping through Mt. Brydges defense while a Sailors player sat in the penalty-box. Eventhough the Bulldogs shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 22 to the Port Stanley Sailors 11, the Sailors kept that one goal lead.

The Sailors went into the second period up by one, and determined to keep the game flowing in their favour. The game almost seemed to be a carbon copy of the first period with lots of end to end action which kept the fans screaming for more, even another Port Stanley goal by Austin Muscutt (3) and assisted by Tyler Foslett (9) at 13:53 kept that almost identical pattern. After that Sailors second goal the game seemed to get a little rougher with more players getting penalties. Just two minutes later at 15:54 the Bulldogs took advantage of a Sailors penalty to finally get on the scoreboard with credit going to Mt. Brydges Matthew Poulin (3) assisted by Daniel Stretton (88). Shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 16 - Port Stanley Sailors 20.

The third period began with the Sailors still up by one, but with the game getting rougher and penalties becoming an game changing issue, it would be sad for the Sailors to give it all away because of escalating tempers. As the game continued, plenty of that fast end to end action kept the fans glued to their seats hoping that the Sailors could keep that lead. After almost twelve minutes of play at 11:54, Sailors Dawson Maton (18) assisted by Derek Smith (10) and Luke Colafranceschi (27) scored Port Stanley's third goal of the game to give the Sailors now a two goal advantage over the Bulldogs. Over the next eight minutes and despite a very obvious increase in time spent in the penalty-box, and the Bulldogs pulling their goalie, Sailors goalie Ryan Langford did his best to keep that two goal lead and go on to win the game. Shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 14 - Port Stanley Sailors 18.
