Sailors Over Bulldogs 32

On Saturday, November 17th, 2018 the Port Stanley Sailors played their eighteenth game of the PJHL Regular 2018 - 2019 Season against the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs at the Port Stanley Arena.

This game against Mt. Brydges could have been an easier win for the Sailors as Mt. Brydges is the lowest ranked team in the PJHL League. The Sailors game plan began at 9:02 when Port Stanley's Brady Allen (2) scored the first goal of the game assisted by Erik Scherer (21), and Tyler Simon (25). Just over three minutes later at 12:11, while the Sailors had a man in the penalty box, Bulldogs Denis Novikov (8) managed a tying goal assisted by Matthew Poulin (3), and Daniel Stretton (88). Having that extra player on the ice was an advantage that Bulldogs Justin Cheng (19) assisted by Ryan Hopkins (14), and Matthew Poulin (3) at 16:11 of the first period put Mt. Brydges into the lead and gave the Sailors at the same time a wake up call. Shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 18 - Port Stanley Sailors 9.

The Sailors went into the second period down by one, but came back from the break determined to take back control of the game. Even though the Bulldogs to this point had almost double the shots on goal, nothing got past Port Stanley's Ryan Langford (1) in the second period. With just over five minutes left in the period at 14:53 the Sailors turned the game around from a goal by Harrison Bell (14) assisted by Nikolas Caetano (7), and Anthony Pileggi (11). Two minutes later the Sailors took back the lead from efforts by Nick Love (17) assisted by Austin Muscutt (3). Shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 16 - Port Stanley Sailors 8.

The Sailors went into the third period leading 3-2, but with 20 minutes left in the game it was going to be an uphill challenge to keep that one goal lead. The Sailors managed to keep that one goal advantage in the last twenty minutes of the game despite having the only penalties of the period and some really close calls during the last 57 seconds of the game when the Bulldogs pulled their goalie. Shots on goal for the period were Mt. Brydges Bulldogs 10 - Port Stanley Sailors 9.
