Sailors Dominate Stars 51

On Saturday, October 20th, 2018 the Port Stanley Sailors played their twelfth game of PJHL Regular 2018 - 2019 Season against the North Middlesex Stars at the Port Stanley Arena.

The North Middlesex Stars seemed to have the advantage from the time the first puck dropped to the ice, while the Sailors followed their usual pattern getting the only two penalties of the period. Things changed at 18:36 of the first period when Sailors Brady Allen (2) got the puck past Stars goalie Pierce Nelson (35) with Luke Colafranceschi (27), and Nick Sammons (15) assisting to get the first goal of the game. Shots on goal for the period were North Middlesex Stars 16 - Port Stanley Sailors 10.

The Sailors went into the second period leading by one, and seemed to come back from the break a different team. It was nice to see the Sailors playing with confidence, taking control and making those shots on goal that sooner or later pay off. At 14:30 Port Stanley's Tommy Zufelt (20) managed the Sailors second goal of the evening with Erik Scherer (21), and Tyler Simon (25) assisting. Credit for Port Stanley's third goal at 17:37 went to Nikolas Caetano (7) with Tyler Foslett (9) assisting. Shots on goal for the period were North Middlesex Stars 5 - Port Stanley Sailors 14.

The Sailors went into the third period leading by three and determined to keep that lead, while the Stars came back after the break determined to change the outcome at all costs. While a Stars player sat in the penalty box, Sailors Dawson Maton (18) scored Port Stanley's fourth goal at 5:16 of the third period with Nick Sammons (15), and Garrett Wells (24) assisting. Just passed the periods halfway mark at 10:19 the Stars finally got their first goal of the game with that credit going to Colin Van Rooyen (27) assisted by Alex Vanderheyden (19), and Sam Baker (44). The final goal of the game went in at 15:57, and again to the delight of the fans it was Sailors Derek Smith (10) who took that honour with Nick Sammons (15), and Garrett Wells (24) assisting. Winning for the first time this season on home ice was a reward that most Port Stanley fans have been waiting for. Shots on goal for the period were North Middlesex Stars 16 - Port Stanley Sailors 18.
