Hawks Over Sailors in Overtime 43

On Saturday, October 20th, 2018 the Port Stanley Sailors played their eleventh game of PJHL Regular 2018 - 2019 Season against the Exeter Hawks at the Port Stanley Arena.

The Exeter Hawks had the advantage from the time the first puck dropped to the ice, and at 10:46 of the first period Hawks Nick Overholt (16) scored the first goal of the game with Evan Hayter (13) assisting. That Exeter offensive went south at 13:56 when Sailors Nick Sammons (15) scored the tying goal, assisted by Luke Colafranceschi (27), and Derek Smith (10). Port Stanley seemed to be taking more shots on goal now and it paid off big time at 15:25 when Sailors Dawson Maton (18) assisted by Tommy Zufelt (20) put the Sailors out in front. Shots on goal for the period were Exeter Hawks 11 - Port Stanley Sailors 11.

The Sailors went into the second period up by one, but Exeter came back determined to get back in control as the pace to the Sailors net seemed to get a lot faster. At 7:35 Sailors Tyler Foslett (9) assisted by Austin Muscutt (3), and Nick Love (17) managed to break through that Exeter defence to put Port Stanley now ahead by two. The game seemed to be going in Port Stanley's direction until 11:16 when Exeter's Ian Vandenheuvel (7) took advantage of a Sailors penalty, assisted by Nolan Koetsier (10), and Jonathon Frook, which put the Hawks now down by only one. Shots on goal for the period were Exeter Hawks 24 - Port Stanley Sailors 14.

The Sailors went into the third period leading by one, and determined to increase that lead by taking more shots on goal. Port Stanley's offensive planning left a gap in defence that at 11:42 Exeter took advantage of with Liam Melady (20) scoring that tying goal, assisted by Ian Vandenheuvel (7), and Jonathon Frook (23) which led to overtime. Shots on goal for the period were Exeter Hawks 9 - Port Stanley Sailors 18.

Playing three on three in overtime was decided after only a minute and twenty-nine seconds with Exeter's Liam Melady (20) going unassisted to Port Stanley's net scoring the winning goal. The game ended with the Exeter Hawks 4 - Port Stanley Sailors 3.
