and Shadow Minister for Families, Children and Social Development welcomed The Honourable
Pierre Poilievre, the Shadow Minister for Finance and Vice-Chair of the Finance
Committee joined over a dozen farmers to discuss the Liberal Government's Proposed
Following a roundtable hosted by the London Chamber of Commerce with 20 local businesses,
Poilievre joined Vecchio at Ferguson Brothers Wednesday afternoon.
Area farmers gathered at the local bean producer and spoke openly about the changes
to the Corporate Tax system and the impact on generational farms with Poilievre
Vecchio has worked in Federal politics for 13 years and stated "I have never seen
an issue like this that has created such backlash. Usually, there would be constituents
both supporting and challenging these changes. Farmers, mechanics, home renovators,
doctors, retailers and many more types of small businesses have called, emailed
or visited my office on this particular issue and constituents are mad and extremely
On October 3rd, the Official Opposition brought forward a motion to extend the consultation
period to January 31, 2018. Only 1 member of the government, MP Wayne Long, voted
to extend the consultation period. MP Long has recently been removed from both Standing
Committees as a result of voting against his government.
"Canadians have been very vocal on this issue," said Vecchio. "This Government needs
to start listening to their constituents. Small businesses are the engine of our
economy and we cannot continue to allow this attack."
