Fanshawe Students Win At Skills Ontario Competition

London, Ontario, Friday, May 11, 2018 - For the eighth consecutive year, Fanshawe students have excelled at the Skills Ontario Competition, bringing home eight medals, including three golds. Held in Waterloo from May 7 to 9, the event is Canada's largest skilled trade and technology competition.

The event provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and abilities by completing various complex projects. Ontario's gold medal winners now move on to the Skills Canada National Competition to be held in Edmonton from June 4 to 5. All participants, including those from Fanshawe, have faculty advisors who invest many hours guiding and preparing them for these skill-testing events.

"We congratulate all our students for their superb showing at the Skills Ontario Competition. We are also proud of the excellent work of our professors/coaches, who gave their time generously to prepare everyone for the provincial competition," said Vertha Coligan, Dean, Faculty of Technology. "We wish our teams every success at the national competition in Alberta in June."

Gary Gerard, Architectural Technology program coordinator and coach of gold medal winner Emma MacMillan said, "We are happy to be a winner at the Skills Ontario Competition. It's always a tough competition and Emma did well and will participate at Skills Canada in Edmonton in June. Fanshawe has now won seven Ontario Gold medals in Architectural Technology and design. The program has produced 11 overall medals, including four silvers since entering the competition in 2011. We are happy for all our students who participated and appreciate the support of everyone in the Donald J. Smith School of Building Technology."
