Fanshawe brings home gold, silver and bronze from Skills Canada

London, Ontario - Students representing Fanshawe's Donald J. Smith School of Building Technology are bringing home a gold, silver and bronze medal from the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), held May 31 to June 3 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Dan Ryan won gold in the Carpentry category, Matthew Shaw won silver in the Architectural Design division and Owen Fryer won bronze in the Sheet Metal competition.

The SCNC is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in the country. Every year, more than 500 young people from all regions of Canada converge at SCNC to participate in over 40 skilled trade and technology competitions. Students must compete at local, regional and provincial/territorial events to gain their place to represent their province/territory at SCNC.

This year's win brings Fanshawe's cumulative total to 10 national medals—four gold, four silver and two bronze—in the six years the College has attended. Fanshawe won a record nine medals – including four gold – at the 2017 Skills Ontario competition held May 1 to 3 in Toronto.
