London, Ontario - Fanshawe College and the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) are pleased
to announce a new educational partnership with Railway City Brewing Company in St.
Thomas that will see students from its School of Tourism and Hospitality learn all
aspects of the brewery business. Additionally, in celebration of Fanshawe’s 50th
anniversary, the College is excited to announce the launch of a commemorative beer.
Fanshawe Legacy Lager is a light gold lager with notes of sweet fruit and citrus,
slight toasted spice, a hint of floral hops and a crisp and refreshing finish. It
will be produced by Railway City Brewing.
The educational partnership will allow the hospitality students to travel to the
brewery, located in St. Thomas, to learn everything about running the brewery business
– from marketing and promotions to packaging and the brewing process.
"This is an amazing industry connection and partnership that reinforces in-class
learning with real-life experiential learning," says James Smith, chair of the School
of Tourism and Hospitality.
Fanshawe Legacy Lager features a hand drawn typographic Illustration created by
Fanshawe graphic design student Andrea Ayala. With the artwork, Andrea joins custom
illustration – a nod to the legacy we have behind us – with a more modern design
approach. From sketches to the final product, it is a creative label that pays homage
to Fanshawe’s 50 years. The beer is currently available on campus at Saffron’s Restaurant
and the Outback Shack. It may also be purchased directly from Railway City Brewing
in St. Thomas.
"As a small craft brewery, we take pride in building relationships in our community,"
says Paul Corriveau, vice president of sales and marketing at Railway City Brewing.
"We're proud to be a part of this exciting opportunity – offering a unique and fun
way to combine passion, education, creativity and skill and bring people within
the community together to share our love of craft beer."
Continuing their studies in the brewery field, students in the Food and Beverage
Management, Culinary Management, Baking and Pastry Arts Management, Hospitality
and Tourism Management and Golf and Club Management programs will participate in
the Prud'homme Beer Certification. The program is designed to further knowledge
of beer products, with a focus on brewing ingredients and processes, tasting concepts,
pouring and serving concepts, draught system basics and food and beer pairings.
The College and Railway City Brewing are working together to create additional educational
partnerships that will benefit Fanshawe students.
