Easter Long Weekend Means Zero Tolerance

Elgin County, ON - The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the motoring public to expect increases in vehicle traffic over the long weekend. As such Elgin County OPP will be out targeting the big four causal factors in fatal driving behaviour:

  • Distracted driving
  • Aggressive driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Not wearing your seatbelt

The need to plan ahead is essential when traveling on our roadways. Those four factors affect other road users safety, not just your own.

Choosing not to wear your seatbelt will get you a fine of $240.00. Using your cell phone or hand held entertainment device will get you a fine of $490.00. Being aggressive or drinking alcohol in excess will get you behind bars with criminal charges.

The Elgin County OPP would like everyone to do their part in road safety. This means ensuring the other road users have a safe and trauma free long weekend thanks to your planning.
