Fire

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Woodstock Police and Woodstock Fire responded to a residential property on Kent St. in the City of Woodstock for a report of smoke coming from the area.

Police attended the rear of the property and saw a fully involved fire, involving part of the home and exterior structures. One of the men who resides at the home was attempting to extinguish the home, with a garden hose. Woodstock Fire Department attended the scene searched the residence and extinguished the fire.

During the investigation; what appeared to be skeletal remains were found in a fire pit.

Upon further investigation by Police Forensic Identification Officer and Crime Unit it was determined the remains were not of a human origin.

No one suffered any medical injuries.

Shoplifters

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 9:39 a.m., Woodstock Police were called to a disturbance in the area of Dundas and Kent Street.

Police attended the parking lot of 645 Dundas Street and located a grocery store employee who had apprehended a shoplifter. The female shoplifter was still trying to get away and assaulted the employee.

A second male also assaulted the same employee.

Police arrived and placed the male and female under arrest.

Eldon HOPPS, age 23, is facing charges of Assault and Breach of Probation. Bethany STEWART, age 27, is facing charges of Assault and Theft.

They will appear in court for a bail hearing on June 15, 2017.
