Weekend Brief for April 13, 2017 to April 17, 2017

Woodstock Police responded to 174 calls for service over the long weekend.


On Thursday, April 13, 2017 shortly after 6:00 p.m. an unknown suspect attended the Canadian Tire on Norwich Ave. in the City of Woodstock. The male filled a cart and left the store without paying. The male stole an $850.00 welder.

Suspect Description; male, mid 20'2, 5'7" in height, heavy set, scruffy hair, wearing a light blue t-shirt.

Suspect vehicle description; Black GMC convertible, the suspect covered the licence plate with a blue jacket.

The vehicle was last observed driving south on Norwich Ave. towards the 401.

Dog attack

On Thursday, April 13, 2017 a Woodstock woman was walking her two dogs on leash at a local park.

The one dog is an 11 year old Black Australian Sheppard Cross.

The woman noticed what appeared to be a pit bull running at large in the park. Suddenly the pit bull noticed the Australian Sheppard and it charged at the Sheppard. The pit bull attacked the Sheppard causing injuries to its throat and face. Four people that were at the park and a neighbor who heard the altercation came to assist. The owner of the Pitbull attended and was able to get the Pitbull under control. T

he Sheppard attended the Veterinarian to have the injuries treated.

This dog has been investigated for other similar incidents.

The investigation is continuing under the Dog owner's liability act and in partnership with Woodstock City Bylaw.

Fishing Licence Checks

On Friday, April 14, 2017 Woodstock Police were on foot patrol at Roth Park. Police checked 11 people who were fishing and everyone had licences and were in compliance with Ontario regulations. Woodstock Police want to remind the public to educate yourselves with the regulations before you fish. https://www.ontario.ca/page/fishing

Warrant – Domestic

Woodstock Police held a warrant for a 51 year old Woodstock man for Domestic Assault charges. On Friday, April 14, 2017 the man was detained by customs at Toronto Pearson International airport when he was returning to Canada from Las Vegas. Woodstock Police attended and arrested the male. He will appear in court on April 18, 2017.


On Sunday, April 16, 2017 shortly before 3:00 p.m. Hrs., a 36 year old female and 39 year old Woodstock man exited their home. They reside in a townhouse complex and were walking thru it towards Dundas St. in the City of Woodstock.

They observed a man walking towards them. The male started to yell obscenities at the two.

The male pulled out a weapon and attempted to use it on the male. The female was yelling that she was going to call police and the male with the weapon fled. Police located the male quickly near the area and arrested him.

The male Zachery ZIEGLER, age 31 was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, utter death threats, and two counts for breaching a probation order.
