Wanted Woman Arrested
October 10th, 2018 - A forty year old St. Thomas woman wanted on a warrant for breaching
her court conditions was arrested Tuesday night in a Talbot Street parking lot.
The woman was observed by officers on general patrol around 8:30 pm when they took
her into custody. The woman was recently released by the courts with orders to report
to the John Howard Society which she failed to do. The woman was later released
on a Promise to Appear in Court.
Inmate Charged With Mischief
A nineteen year old inmate from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre has been charged
with Mischief Under $5000 after damaging a holding cell at the Elgin County Court
House. The man was transported to the court house from the jail for an appearance
yesterday. While waiting in the cell for his court appearance, the man scratched
initials on the cell wall. He was arrested by court security and the Mischief Charge
was added to the list of charges the man was already facing.
Disturbance Call Leads to Charges
Officers responding to a report of a disturbance between two men near the corner
of Talbot and St. Catharine Streets last night around 9:30 pm resulted in police
arresting one of the men for an impaired driving offence. The incident began when
a concerned citizen called 911 to report the downtown disturbance. Just as officers
arrived on scene they observed one of the men driving away from the area. The vehicle
the male was driving struck a female pedestrian and headed northbound on St. Catharine
Street. Officers stopped the vehicle near Kains Street and took the driver into
custody. Breath samples indicated the driver had approximately 130 milligrams of
alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood. Officers located cannabis in the vehicle as
well. The driver, a thirty three year old St. Thomas man is now charged with one
count of Driving Motor Vehicle With More Than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in 100 Milliliters
of Blood, one count Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and one count Drug
Possession. No injuries were reported by the pedestrian.
