Police Looking For Witness

August 9th, 2019 - Police are looking to speak with a witness described as a middle aged woman with brown hair wearing a blue shirt who was standing in the area of Curtis and East Street last night around 7:30 pm. Officers observed the woman have to step out of the way after a vehicle made a wide turn onto East Street from Curtis Street and hopped the curb. A traffic stop was conducted and officers discovered the forty year old male driver had been drinking. The driver was arrested and taken into custody at the Colin McGregor Justice building where breath samples indicated he had four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The man was charged with Impaired Operation and Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. The driver was later released on a Promise to Appear in court. Officers tried to locate the woman at the time of the arrest but she had already left the area. Warrant

A thirty five year old St. Thomas woman wanted on a warrant by London Police was arrested yesterday around the noon hour at the Elgin County Court House. The woman had attended court on an unrelated matter when court security discovered the warrant. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to London Police Headquarters for processing.

Theft

Thirty six year old Robert Daniel Smith of St. Thomas was arrested last night after he was recorded on home security video stealing a bicycle. Smith was recorded around 7:30 pm walking into the open garage of a residence on Warbler Heights and riding away on a bike. The homeowner contacted police who quickly recognized Smith. Officers took him into custody a short time later. Smith is now charged with one count Break and Enter and one count Breach of Probation. The bike has not been recovered as the accused is uncooperative with police and refuses to disclose it’s whereabouts. The bike is described as a 2019 Grey Trek Marlin with yellow grips. Impaired

An early morning traffic stop resulted in a forty nine year old woman from Kettle and Stoney Point being arrested. An alert citizen called in a possible impaired driver after seeing a vehicle swerve into the median and hit a traffic sign while heading into St. Thomas on Wellington Road. Police located the vehicle near the west end roundabout at the base of Talbot Street and discovered the driver had been drinking. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Colin McGregor Justice Building where breath samples indicated the woman had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system. The driver was charged one count Impaired Operation by Alcohol and one count Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. She was later released on a Promise to Appear in court.
