Update - OPP Request For Witnesses/Operator Charged
Lakeshore, ON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is requesting assistance from
the public following yesterday's vessel collision at the Belle River Marina.
A 31 year old Cambridge, Ontario woman was seriously injured after she was ejected
from an 18 foot fishing boat at approximately 4:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Stephen ELZINGA, age 34 of Caledonia, Ontario has been charged with the following
offences and will appear in a Windsor, Ontario court on November 28, 2017:
- Dangerous Operation Of A Vessel Causing Bodily Harm
- Operate A Vessel Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol In Blood Causing Bodily Harm
A number of people were believed to have witnessed this collision and are asked
to contact the OPP Essex County Major Crime Unit immediately at 519-723-2491 to
assist with the investigation.

OPP Investigating Marine Collision In Lakeshore
Lakeshore, ON - On November 11, 2017 at approximately 4:20 p.m. the Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) responded to a marine collision on Lake St. Clair at the Belle River
Marina, Lakeshore, Ontario.
An 18 foot vessel struck the break wall at the Belle River pier and an adult male
and female aboard have been transported to an area hospital having suffered undetermined
The OPP's Technical Collision Investigators are investigating.
