Elgin County, ON - The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has completed
their festive R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign for 2017.
Over 110 R.I.D.E checks were completed from November 24, 2017 to January 02, 2018.
Over the course of the festive R.I.D.E campaign, 8 drivers were arrested and charged
with being over the legal limit with alcohol. Other offences include:
- 4, three day road side driver licence suspension for being in the warn range for
consuming alcohol. This is between .50 and .80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
- 1, seven day road side driver licence suspension for being in the warn range for
consuming alcohol. The seven days is for a second offence in the warn range, a third
offence gets you a 30 day licence suspension.
- Other criminal code charges; from possession of a controlled substance to breeching
That brings the total to 69 drivers within Elgin County alone charged in 2017 for
impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The fatal four causal factors to death on our roadways are:
- not wearing your seat belt,
- distracted driving,
- aggressive driving,
- and impaired driving.
Let's do better in 2018 when it comes to keeping each other safe on our roadways.
