Fentanyl Seizures Confirmed in Woodstock

The Woodstock Police Service is putting the community on notice that bootleg Fentanyl has been confirmed in our city. Two recent samples submitted to Health Canada have confirmed the powdered substances as fentanyl. In the first incident in October 2016, the bootleg fentanyl was being passed off as a street name of "popcorn". In the second incident, the substance may have been passed off as heroin. Detective Sergeant Becks reports that four other seizures to date for 2017 have been submitted to Health Canada for analysis, but are suspected to contain fentanyl.

D/Sgt. Becks cautions those using illicit drugs to not assume that what you think you are buying is what you are really getting and to be aware of the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose:

  • Slow breathing, erratic or not at all
  • Lips and fingernails turning blue
  • Unconsciousness
  • Deep snoring or a gurgling sound
  • Pin point pupils
  • Vomiting

The Woodstock Police Service advise the public to contact 911 immediately in any suspected overdose situation and that the goal of the Woodstock Police Service is to target those involved in the sale of this illicit dangerous drug.

Chief Bill Renton said it should be no surprise that the bootleg Fentanyl has made its way into our community. There has been tremendous media attention to the deadly effects of this drug all across this country.

The WOODSTOCK POLICE SERVICE would like to encourage anyone having information about this investigation or information relating to drug trafficking to contact the WOODSTOCK POLICE SERVICE at 519-537-2323 or Crime Stoppers 421-TIPS (8477) or toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
