Central Elgin, ON - The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to
a break and enter to a residence around 3:30 p.m. on the 14th of June 2017. This
was in the area of Quaker Road and Dexter Line in Central Elgin, ON.
The suspect(s) entered the residence and ended up stealing 3 firearms, ammunition,
The OPP's Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Canine unit attended the scene
in order to track down the suspect(s). It was believe at the time that the break
and enter had just taken place.
Elgin County officers set up containment in the area of Dexter Line and Quaker Road
to assist ERT and Canine. The roadway was closed for a brief timeframe and has since
been reopened. No suspects were located.
Later reports indicated that the break and enter could have happened between 10:00
a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The Elgin County OPP would like to remind firearm owners that firearms are often
targeted during break and enters. The need to securely store and ensure firearms
are locked properly is paramount. Going beyond what is required will also ensure
that your firearms will be less likely compromised.
Currently the Elgin County Crime Unit continues to investigate this break and enter.
