This winter, come and visit Backus Woods - a spectacular older growth forest in
the heart of Norfolk County.
With over 21 kilometers of hiking trails to ski, snowshoe or birdwatch along - this
Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) Nature Destination is the perfect way to enjoy
nature this season. Listen for the distinctive gobble of resident turkeys. Keep
an eye out for a flash of red from a pileated woodpecker.
NCC’s Nature Destinations program invites you to take a journey through some of
the greatest examples of our country’s natural areas and to connect with nature.
Ontario has three unique destinations you can visit, including Backus Woods.
You can now share your experience of this unique Carolinian ecosystem with us. NCC
has recently created a digital guestbook where visitors can share their stories
about Backus Woods, report wildlife observations or trail issues, or ask questions
about the property or NCC. There are signs posted at each major entrance with the
internet link and a QR code to direct visitors to the guestbook (http://www.natureconservancy.ca/backusbook).
Visitors who sign the guestbook will receive more information about Backus Woods
and be put in touch with a relevant NCC staff member for any questions they may
have. Come out to Backus Woods and let us know how your hike went!
