On Friday March 8, 2019 the London Student Coalition, OPSEU Local 110, OPSEU Local
109, PSAC Local 610, Western Society of Graduate Students, UWOFA (Western Faculty
Association), St. Thomas and District Labour Council, London and District Labour
Council, and supporters were gathered outside Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek's
Constituency Office in St Thomas.
Students and supporters were calling on MPP Jeff Yurek to oppose the announced cuts
to OSAP, cuts to university and college funds, and an attempt to undermine student
services and student advocacy.
"We stand with students in advocating for quality education," said OPSEU 110 President
Darryl Bedford. "When the government considers changes, they needed to first consult
with students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and business. The government
eliminated that vital consultation mechanism when they cancelled the Ontario College
Task Force on their very first day of office. Not only do we say that move was illegal,
morally it is wrong to ignore the voice of 'the people'."
