Yurek Calls On Government To Be Transparent With New Taxes

ST. Thomas – Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London is calling on the Wynne Liberal Government to be honest and stop hiding new taxes from Ontarians.

"The government's lack of transparency in its tax policy with constituents in my riding is appalling" stated Yurek.

It was recently discovered that the Wynne Liberals secretly plan to apply HST to their new cap-and-trade plan.

"They attempted to hide that Ontarians will be charged a tax on a tax."

In addition, last Friday it was revealed that the cap-and-trade tax will not be a line item on natural gas bills. Instead it will be included in the delivery charge and consumers will have no way of knowing if they are being charged the extra $5 a month that the Liberals have stated would be the cost of the cap-and-trade program.

"Ontarians want this government to be honest and deserve to know the true costs of the cap-and-trade scheme Premier Wynne has created. There is no transparency or accountability of this new tax" continued MPP Yurek

"With our debt surpassing $300 billion and new hidden taxes, the Wynne Liberal government is making life harder for Ontarians. Unfortunately under this government's lack of transparency it is only going to get worse.”
