Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 - Students and staff members of the Thames Valley District School Board are determined
to create real, lasting change in their school communities by raising at least $350,000
for the United Way.
This year’s district-wide campaign was officially launched today by Associate Director,
Learning Support Services, Valerie Nielsen at a special event at Glendale High School
"It is critical to recognize that our own students and staff may need to call on
one of our United Way agencies, and supporting this year’s campaign will help to
ensure that assistance is there when it is needed," said Associate Director Valerie
Over the last 12 years, TVDSB students and staff have raised almost $4 million for
the United Way agencies of Middlesex London, Elgin-St. Thomas, and Oxford.
"Creating the right conditions for education is something we strive for every day."
Associate Director Nielsen added. "Small donations from all of us provide big opportunities
to impact the culture for learning."
The largest portion of the TVDSB contribution to the campaign is made through employee
payroll deductions, which support United Way agencies of London & Middlesex, Oxford
and St. Thomas-Elgin and the 85 community agencies they serve.
TVDSB contributions are allocated to United Way agencies in the community where
the money was raised.
