Spring Make Over

The spring season for the Municipality of Central Elgin usually begins near the end of March when the weather begins to stay warm enough for all the snow to disappear. In Port Stanley, work usually begins around the beach when the snow fences one day disappear, taken away and put into storage for another winter season. Next comes a thorough cleaning and levelling of all the sand that seems to get into all the wrong places during those cold winter breezes.

If you were one of the lucky people to take a walk on the beach to see what emerged over winter, it would not have taken long before you realized that leaving the beach "Au Naturel" was a wasted tourist opportunity. With tourism as Port Stanley's main economic engine, putting all this effort into creating a pristine environment for tourists makes for good economic sense for the hometown businesses.

Last year on April 1st the Port Stanley breakwater opened for the 2017 season and hopefully this year it will happen again this Easter weekend. Having everything nice, clean and open will surely get those tourist's back in town. All we have to do now is figure out how to keep the weather warm and sunny.
