Port Stanley's King George Lift Bridge Is Back In Service

After almost a week of no vehicular traffic over the bridge, Port Stanley's King George Lift Bridge is now back in service. The bridge was closed last week on Thursday, May 3rd because of a locking mechanism that secures the two parts of the bridge together needing repairs. On Tuesday crews did the repairs and now the bridge is in full working order.

Having the lift bridge out of service even for a short time, made people aware of how important to Port Stanley the bridge really is. Not having that usual link between both sides of town seemed to take away more than just the inconvenience of using Warren Street, but created two deadends with no additional parking in the middle of town. It also made it clear the need for a set of traffic lights at the corner of Warren and Colborne where people had a long wait trying to make that left turn across traffic.
