London, Ont. - The top two winners of Dream Lottery in support of the regional hospitals in London were revealed this morning at the Magnolia Refined Rustic Dream Home in London.

Selling out at the Bonus deadline, Dream Lottery has raised almost $39 million (net) since 1996 in support of Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph's Health Care London and LHSC. Due to the early sellout, lottery rules allowed for the draw to be moved up from January to December.

The ticket for the lottery's Grand Prize (ticket number 010431) was purchased by Sue Murphy of London. Murphy wins the choice of either the Wastell Homes-built Magnolia Refined Rustic Dream Home furnished by Accents Home Furniture worth $1.6 million, or the Highland Green Estates Dream Home by Reis Design + Build with interior design by Jillian Summers of Upstaging and furnishings by Accents Home Furniture worth $1.45 million, or $1 million in cash.

The winning ticket number was revealed by Children's Health Foundation President & CEO Scott Fortnum, who then tried to phone Murphy with the good news. She ignored the first two calls because she was out shopping for Christmas gifts for her grandchildren and didn't recognize the number. Murphy says that she didn't connect the call with the lottery due to the early draw. Lottery officials were able to connect on their third attempt.

"Sure?" was her hesitant first reaction when told she was the grand prize winner. When told of her prize choices, she asked "Is this a joke? Oh, my goodness, can I call my husband? Oh, gosh."

Murphy, a retired customs officer arrived at the home with her husband Dennis Reed and were soon joined by their son and daughter. The long-time ticket-buyers say this is their first Dream Lottery win. Impressed with the two prize homes, which they toured this morning, they still decided on the cash option. A Disney vacation with the grandkids is one dream on their list that this win will make a joyous reality.

The winner of London's largest 50/50 was also revealed. Aline Wirtanen of Sarnia (ticket number 5224625) takes half of the record $1,074,045 prize. St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation President & CEO Michelle Campbell called Wirtanen for her reaction.

At first, Wirtanen seemed to take the news of her more than half-million-dollar win in stride saying, "Yes, that's nice." When told again of the prize amount, she responded, "I was going to ask you if this is a joke." When assured it was no joke, she agreed that this was going to be a very merry Christmas.

Wirtanen is scheduled to visit one of the Dream homes with her son later this afternoon.

All winning numbers for the lottery were drawn December 4, 2019 at the office of Deloitte LLP, 255 Queens Avenue, Suite 700, London, Ontario under the supervision of accountants of record from the firm Deloitte LLP. The primary purchaser of each winning ticket will be contacted by phone and/or mail. The names of major prize winners will be posted on-line at www.dreamitwinit.ca by Thursday, December 12 and a printed list of winners is also available upon request by calling 1-866-319-9818.

The winning will continue next month with the Money & Memories Calendar draws. Winning names and numbers will be posted each day in February and March on the Dream Lottery website at www.dreamitwinit.ca and on Dream Lottery's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/dreamitwinit.
