SeaCruiseTrade magazine, the publication of record for the world cruise industry, has announced, in Lisbon, Portugal, the winner of the industry's Personality of the Year Award, Doug Prothero, CEO of the RitzCarlton Yacht Collection. The award recognizes a long and successful career in the charter boat trade and an equally long history of philanthropy through sail training for young people.

On October 9th in Vigo, Spain, when a new 200 million dollar cruise yacht built for the RitzCarlton Corporation is launched, it will be the culmination of a thirty-five year dream for Port Stanley native, Douglas Prothero, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection Inc. Doug, eldest son of Frank and Nancy Prothero, grew up in Port Stanley, attending the PSPS, Arthur Voaden Secondary School, Western Michigan University and Wilfred Laurier University.

Doug's qualifications include construction, ownership and operation of numerous Tall Ships, one of which was Canada's largest sail vessel, the Caledonia. The launching of the first cruise ship in the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection will take place at the ship yard in Vigo, Spain, a year after the keel was laid. The luxury interior accommodations will be completed in Florida. Four more cruise ships will be built, for a total investment of more than one billion dollars U.S.

Doug, and his wife, Jenny, and their four year old twins, Bella and Soren, moved from Toronto to Miami last year to oversee the new business venture. They will be present in Vigo, Spain, as the new cruise vessel is launched. So will proud parents, Frank and Nancy.
