A message to all those residents of Central Elgin that hate election signs.
Most signs I would hope are being put on the road allowance which is public
property, and even though you might not like it that it's in front of or really
close to your property, you just have to put up with it for just a little over
three more weeks.
Recently there has been a few stories of people removing signs and throwing them
off into the sunset. But here's one that's just a little different. News has come
through concerning Central Elgin Candidate for Deputy Mayor Harold Winkworth's problem
of signs being destroyed by a lawnmower, which by the way did an amazing job of making
those signs totally unusable. It seems that these signs were placed on the road allowance on
Sunset by the Ontario Hospital near the OPP station. Another interesting tidbit of
information and this part could be a rumour, is that the person with the grass cutting
contract at the Ontario Hospital is a brother to one of the other candidates running
for Deputy Mayor.
The reality is that tampering with election signs is a Criminal Offence, and that any
person participating in this type of behaviour is subject to being charged with Mischief under
the Criminal Code of Canada. Police also say that should you witness anyone tampering or
damaging posted election signs, you are asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
You can also remain anonymous, by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where you
may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
