Thinking about running for your local council? Candidate information sessions are available to those considering running for the 2018 municipal elections.

A presentation from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs organized by local clerks of Elgin County on April 24, 2018 will highlight what candidates should know about the Municipal Elections Act, including campaign finances, and highlight the roles and responsibilities of council and council members.

This presentation is free to attend and is being held at the East Elgin Community Complex at 531 Talbot Street West, Aylmer, from 7-9 pm. Those interested can register at Eventbrite - https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/candidate-information-session-tickets-44262983776.

Potential candidates may also be interested in the online training course “So You Want to Run for Council” being offered by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). The course provides an overview of beginning a candidacy and running for municipal office. The online session is available through AMO’s education portal at www.MunicipalEducation.ca for a cost of $66.37 +HST ($75).

AMO’s information flyer is available at your local municipal office and on the websites. More information about other courses offered by AMO can be found at https://www.amo.on.ca/AMO-Content/Municipal-101/Municipal-Elections.aspx.
