2018 Municipal And School Board Election Resources

May 14, 2018 - The upcoming Municipal and School Board Elections on October 22, 2018, includes voting for local school board trustee. School board trustees play a key leadership role in public education and ensure their local school boards are accountable to parents, guardians and their local communities for student success and well-being.

Community engagement in the political process is one way citizens can help shape the collective future of their community. That is why it is important that citizens -- including parents, guardians and all constituents reflecting the diversity of Ontario -- get involved in the upcoming election on October 22, whether by voting or running as a school board trustee candidate.

The Ontario Education Services Corporation (OESC), on behalf of Ontario's four school board/trustee associations, has developed a series of resources to raise awareness about the important role of school board trustees and to support citizens who are considering becoming a school board trustee candidate in their local area. Attached please find the following PDF documents available for download:

  • OESC Letter to External Stakeholders (French)
  • 'Making a Difference for Kids: Running for Election as a School Board Trustee' Information Guide pdf (French and English)
    • Provides an overview of the role and responsibilities of trustees
  • 'Change the Future' Digital posters (French and English)
    • Promotes the role of school board trustee and encourage participation in the upcoming election

In addition, a centralized School Board Elections website has been created for community members to learn more about the role of trustee, who their local school board trustee candidates are and how to become a candidate. The website is available in both official languages at: www.elections.ontarioschooltrustees.org or www.elections.conseillersscolairesontario.org.

We kindly ask that you please share the digital posters, Guide and website information within your community and wider networks by posting on your website, promoting via social media and/or email and printing and displaying copies of the posters prominently in common areas. The goal of this project is to reach as wide and diverse an audience as possible.

Together, let's help make a difference for kids and change their future for the better. Thank you in advance for your support of this important project.
