Mayor Martyn did NOT apologize for her offensive remarks at the Council meeting
today. This means she did not satisfy the principle of accountability under The
A couple of Council members were offended, not that the Mayor had violated the Code
of Conduct but rather that the Mayor's comments had been discovered ... meaning
that they are unable to speak freely and however they like. One Councilor even claimed
to be "disgusted" ... not by Sally's offences but by the complainant for coming
forward. It is difficult to decide which behaviour is worse.
If you conduct yourselves as professionals, there will be no reason for anyone to
file a complaint and the Integrity Commissioner will have no reason to investigate.
Sally admitted she violated the Code and while denying the accusations, the prospect
of a full investigation was obviously something she did not want to have happen
as she agreed to apologize ... again, something she failed to do.
Wonder what the Integrity Commissioner will have to say about that?
