If you would like to participate in the plan for the Port Stanley Harbour lands,
the Port Stanley Harbour Public Workshop scheduled for Monday, July, 24, 2017 at
6:30:PM at the Port Stanley Arena, 332 Carlow Road, Port Stanley should be the event
that you can't afford to miss.
What happens to the Harbour is a question that will eventually get answered, but
in order to achieve the best possible plan for the Harbour, the public must provide
some input. Even if you attended and provided your input at the first meetings for
the 2009 Mark Conway Port Stanley Port Facility Feasibility Study and Business Plan
which began the whole process, all that has to be repeated for every meeting that
gets scheduled, if you want your vision to shape the Port Stanley Harbour.
Your revised vision should include the lands of the Port Stanley Harbour, properties
the Municipality of Central Elgin purchased on the west side of the harbour that
are currently used as parking lots or unused because of construction, the Adjacent
Harbour Lands, the Main Street/Bridge Street Adjacent Lands, and the Maud and Bessie
area which are all part of the secondary plan. The secondary plan will lay out the
long-term plan for the re-purposing of the Port Stanley Harbour lands and their
planned integration with the adjacent waterfront areas in Port Stanley. And some
direction to the hardest question to answer, provide concepts that illustrate alternative
means of providing a range of economic development choices or opportunities and
associated uses that are fiscally sustainable and that best address the natural
heritage, servicing and transportation opportunities, impacts in Port Stanley.
That's a huge request to fill, but if you don't attend all the meetings and keep
providing some input, your ideas will never become a part of the new vision for
the Port Stanley Harbour.
