Friday, May 17, 2019 - With the long weekend and fair weather approaching the Woodstock
Police Service would like to remind everyone celebrating or traveling this weekend
to do so safely. Officers will be on the roads patrolling looking for distracted,
intoxicated and aggressive drivers.
Drivers are often excited to get to their destination and are not paying enough
attention or driving too fast as a result. Police want to remind commuters to pay
attention, buckle up and slow down. As many people are celebrating this weekend,
please confirm a designated driver or an alternate safe ride home and do not get
behind the wheel after consuming drugs or alcohol.
Boaters using motorized boats should possess a pleasure craft operator card, be
sober and have passengers wear life jackets/personal floatation devices. They should
also be prepared and have all the necessary equipment while out on the water.
Many pool owners are opening their pools and getting them ready for summer this
weekend. Parents need to be attentive to watching their children in and around the
swimming pool regardless of their swimming skill level. Accidents can happen in

on by the community or a safe/licensed organization rather than setting them off
on your own. If you choose to have your own private show, please follow the recommended
guidelines on the firework packages, keep children far away from the explosives
and ensure they are being set off in an open area downwind from where viewers are
