WPS Victoria Day Weekend Safety Message

Friday, May 17, 2019 - With the long weekend and fair weather approaching the Woodstock Police Service would like to remind everyone celebrating or traveling this weekend to do so safely. Officers will be on the roads patrolling looking for distracted, intoxicated and aggressive drivers.

Drivers are often excited to get to their destination and are not paying enough attention or driving too fast as a result. Police want to remind commuters to pay attention, buckle up and slow down. As many people are celebrating this weekend, please confirm a designated driver or an alternate safe ride home and do not get behind the wheel after consuming drugs or alcohol.

Boaters using motorized boats should possess a pleasure craft operator card, be sober and have passengers wear life jackets/personal floatation devices. They should also be prepared and have all the necessary equipment while out on the water.

Many pool owners are opening their pools and getting them ready for summer this weekend. Parents need to be attentive to watching their children in and around the swimming pool regardless of their swimming skill level. Accidents can happen in an instant.

If you are looking for a fireworks show, it is recommended you attend the show put on by the community or a safe/licensed organization rather than setting them off on your own. If you choose to have your own private show, please follow the recommended guidelines on the firework packages, keep children far away from the explosives and ensure they are being set off in an open area downwind from where viewers are observing.

Woodstock Police Service would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Victoria Day weekend.

The WOODSTOCK POLICE SERVICE would like to encourage anyone having information about distracted drivers, aggressive drivers or impaired drivers to contact WOODSTOCK POLICE SERVICE at 519-537-2323 or Crime Stoppers 421-TIPS (8477) or toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
