March 14th, 2019 - Officers from the St. Thomas Police Service conducted a seat belt check lane yesterday during the noon hour. Approximately eighty drivers were stopped and two tickets were issued. The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $240 and two demerit points. Buckle up for safety!


Thirty two year old Michael John BROUGHTON of St. Thomas was arrested by officers on a warrant yesterday afternoon around 2:30 pm. The warrant was issued by Probation after Broughton breached one of his release conditions. Broughton was processed and released on a Promise to Appear in Court next month.


Twenty eight year old Michael MAGINN of St. Thomas was arrested by officers yesterday afternoon around 2:30 pm. Maginn was wanted on a warrant for Theft Under $5000 and Breach of Release Conditions. The warrant stems from an incident last week where police investigated a gas drive off from a station on Talbot Street. Maginn was held in custody at the Colin McGregor Justice Building for court.


Police were called to the ATM vestibule at the Bank of Montreal on Talbot Street last night after a customer reported a man sleeping on the floor. When officers arrived they located at sixty four year old homeless man who had set up camp for the night at the bank. The man was referred to several homeless support agencies in the city however he refused assistance. The man was moved along by police and did not return.

Stolen Steaks

Twenty six year old Tanner Lindsay of St. Thomas was arrested last night after shoplifting from the Real Canadian Superstore. Police attended the store after receiving a call from another customer advising a male was in the meat department loading up a backpack with steaks. The man then ran from the store making no attempt to pay for the items. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody after a short foot chase. Five premium steaks valued at $120 were located in his backpack. Lindsay was charged one count of Theft Under $5000 and released on an Appearance Notice for Court.


Police arrested a thirty two year old St. Thomas woman during an early morning traffic stop around 3:30 am. Officers discovered the woman travelling in the vehicle was currently bound by court imposed release conditions to obey a curfew and several non associations. The woman was out past her curfew and a second passenger in the vehicle was a male the woman was not to communicate with. She was taken into custody without incident and held at the Colin McGregor Justice Building for court.
