Male Arrested Walking In Traffic

March 5th, 2019 St. Thomas Police Officers arrested a thirty two year old male early this morning after he was nearly struck by a car walking down the middle of Talbot Street just after midnight. The male was taken into custody without incident and charged with being Intoxicated in Public contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. He was held at the Colin McGregor Justice Building until sober.

Mental Health Related Issues Keep Officers Busy

In the last twelve hours St. Thomas Police Officers have responded to a dozen mental health related calls for service. Seven of the calls were able to be resolved through mediation with Officers, two individuals were apprehended and taken to hospital for their own safety, two sought treatment voluntarily after negotiations with police and one individual completely refused assistance. Mental Health related calls for service continue to place heavy demands on our staffing resources. Although we had support from our in house mental health response worker until 11 pm, the calls continued to come in long after her shift was over leaving officers to deliver mental health first aid.
