Break and Enter
June 24th, 2019 - A forty three year old St. Thomas man was arrested last evening
around 7:30 pm in the Lake Margaret area after an incident where he was caught by
alert citizens trying to steal from garages. An off duty police officer was standing
in the back of her garage when she was startled by a man who walked right in through
the open door. The man took off once he saw the woman and continued down the street.
The homeowner followed the man down the road in her vehicle while calling police.
She observed him enter another open garage and rifle through a tool box. An off
duty officer attended the scene and attempted to arrest the male. A short scuffle
ensued and the male was taken into custody quickly on STPS arrival. The man is now
charged one count Break and Enter, one count Utter Threats, one count Resist Arrest
and one count Breach of Release Conditions. He was held in custody at the Colin
McGregor Justice Building overnight for court.
Police are investigating after a bicycle was stolen from behind a restaurant located
in the plaza on the corner of Talbot and Balaclava Streets. The bike is described
as a black and green CCM. Security video captured the recording of a male stealing
the bike around 5:15 pm. The male walked up to the bike, cut the lock and rode away
westbound down Talbot Street. The male is described as Caucasian, medium height,
slim build wearing a black t-shirt, black ball cap, brown shorts and carrying a
blue bag. Police are hoping to receive a copy of the video footage for public release.

St. Thomas Police charged two homeless men after officers were called to a Talbot
Street restaurant regarding a male digging through garbage bins in the dining room.
A sixty four year old man who had already been trespassed from the property was
charged under the Trespass to Property Act. A second forty two year old man wanted
on a bench warrant for failing to attend court was also arrested at the scene. Once
in custody police located one gram of Crystal Methamphetamine in his pocket. The
man was taken to the Colin McGregor Justice Building for processing with an additional
Drug Possession charge and later released on a Promise to Appear in Court.
