Distraction Theft

July 31st, 2019 - Two men and a woman were arrested Monday afternoon around 2:30 pm in the Walmart parking lot after stealing a wallet during an organized distraction theft. Loss Prevention Officers were watching the three suspects acting suspicious in the store when they observed them follow a woman into the parking lot. The woman put her purchases and purse in her vehicle when she was approached by a man and woman who distracted her while the second male went into her vehicle and stole her wallet. The suspects got into a gold coloured Mazda 5 and attempted to leave the area. Loss Prevention had contacted police during the distraction and officers arrived on scene in time to stop the car and take the three occupants into custody. The trio had most likely followed the victim through the checkout and obtained her bank card PIN by watching her enter the digits. Constantic-Ovidiu Marandiuc 36 years, Catalin Borcoi 39 years and Genoveva Zarafan 44 years all from Romania were each charged with one count Theft Under $5000 and held for a court appearance.

Warrant

A twenty eight year old St. Thomas man wanted on a warrant for one count of Theft Under $5000 and one count of Breach was arrested yesterday morning around 9:30 am by Court Security Officers at the Elgin County Court House. The man had attended the location on an unrelated matter when security discovered he was wanted. The man was taken into custody without incident and held for his appearance.

Stolen Vehicle

Two men and a woman were arrested yesterday afternoon around 1 pm in the Walmart parking lot after Loss Prevention contacted police to report two intoxicated males that drove to the store in a vehicle were currently inside shoplifting. Officers arrived on scene and a short struggle ensued as they took the men into custody. Police located the vehicle they were driving in the parking lot and discovered it was reported stolen to London Police and the licence plate was stolen from Chatham. A small quantity of Fentanyl and an assortment of drug paraphernalia was located inside the car. A twenty eight year old St. Thomas man is now charged one count Breach of Release, one count Possession of Break In Instruments, three counts Drive While Prohibited, one count Possession of Stolen Property, one count Resist Arrest and one count Drug Possession. A thirty six year old London man is charged one count Possession Stolen Property, one count Possession of Break In Instruments, one count Drug Possession and one count Breach of Release. A twenty three year old Mississauga woman located by police in the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle was charged one count Possession of Break In Instruments and one count Drug Possession. All three were held at the Colin McGregor Justice Building for court.

Warrant

Police are looking for a forty five year old St. Thomas man after attending his apartment to conduct a compliance check. The man was recently released by with court ordered conditions to live at a Princess Ave address and abide by a nightly curfew of 10 pm to 6 am. Officers attended the location last evening and discovered the male was not inside the residence and had not lived there for several weeks. He is now wanted for two counts of Breach of Release.
